How to Secure eBay with a Passkey

Overview​

eBay supports passkeys as an alternative to your password, letting you sign in using biometrics, a pattern, a PIN, or a hardware security key like your Seedkeeper PRO. This guide walks through setting that up.

Why choose the security key option?

The default your browser offers - Face ID, Touch ID, Windows Hello, or a synced credential manager - creates a perfectly valid passkey.

Choosing your Seedkeeper PRO instead changes three things:

  • The key exists in one place only. A synced passkey is copied across every device on your cloud account, and that account is usually protected by a password. A hardware passkey is generated inside a certified secure element and physically cannot leave it.
  • Nobody else is in the chain. No provider account, no cloud, no vendor login standing between you and your own credentials.
  • It travels. The same card or ring works on your phone, your laptop, and a machine that isn't yours - a work computer, a shared workstation - leaving nothing behind.

Step-by-Step Instructions​

Step 1: Sign in to eBay​

Open ebay.com and sign in with your existing email and password.

Step 2: Go to Sign in and security​

Go to My Account and select Sign in and security.

Step 3: Turn on Passkeys​

Find Passkeys and select Turn on.

Step 4: Add a passkey​

On the Sign in faster with passkeys screen, select Add a passkey.

Step 5: Choose other options​

Your browser will prompt you to create the passkey, typically defaulting to your device's own biometrics. Look for Other options (or a similar prompt) to register a hardware security key instead.

Step 6: Connect your Seedkeeper PRO​

Insert your Seedkeeper PRO, or tap it against an NFC reader.

Step 7: Enter your PIN​

Provide your passkey PIN to complete the registration.

eBay confirms the passkey has been created, and you can now sign in using your Seedkeeper PRO instead of your password.

Turning Off a Passkey​

From the same Sign in and security page, find the passkey entry and turn it off. eBay confirms with a message letting you know the passkey has been removed.

Does adding a passkey remove my eBay password?

No. You can continue to sign in with your password whenever you prefer.

Should I also enable 2-Step Verification?

eBay recommends it as an extra layer of security. It works alongside passkeys and covers cases where a passkey isn't used to sign in.
